Starting off the year in 39th place, Georgetown Preparatory School has not yet lived up to their preseason rank. After losing three of their first five games, the Hoyas dropped out of the Digital Sports Top 50 Lacrosse Rankings. Now, during the busiest part of their season, Georgetown seems to be turning things around, trying to make it back into the Top 50.
In those five games, Georgetown managed to take commanding victories over St. John’s DC and Collegiate School, outscoring their opponents 27-9. Though the other three games against Paul VI Catholic High School, St. Paul’s School, and Gilman School were losses, they were only outscored 26-17, a nine goal difference.
Georgetown’s schedule doesn’t get any easier, with nine games in 16 days. The Hoyas kicked off this campaign on Monday in a game against Durham Academy down in North Carolina. Georgetown made the voyage down South worthwhile with a strong 12-6 victory, breaking their two game losing streak. Then, they took the momentum into their next game with an 8-6 win over Ravenscroft School.
Today, Georgetown faced a double-header against Whitman and Sewickley Academy, sweeping the competition. At noon, the Hoyas faced off against Whitman and came out swinging. They controlled the entire game, finishing at 15-2. Then, at four o’clock, Georgetown kept up their outstanding play with a 15-4 win. In just one day’s work, the Hoyas went 30-6, dominating in both games.
That is just the beginning to Georgetown’s intense series of games, but so far, they have started off well. With 13 games left in the season, there is still plenty of time to continue their now four-game win streak and make a comeback. If they keep scoring goals like they have been, the Hoyas can find themselves back in Top 50.
